Alton B. Farris III, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Farris is involved in diagnostic work as a renal and gastrointestinal pathologist in the division of Anatomic Pathology.
Dr. Farris is a member of Emory's Center for Comprehensive Informatics, which promotes and develops complementary technology for cutting-edge scientific and medical research. Through the application of novel imaging techniques, Dr. Farris aims to facilitate new insights into pathogenesis, accurate diagnoses and, ultimately, optimal patient care. He is also a member of the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute.
Dr. Farris graduated Magnum Cum Laude with his MD from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He then completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was named Chief Resident. Dr. Farris also completed a fellowship in Renal and Surgical Gastrointestinal Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital, and he was a graduate assistant at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Farris's research interests include renal allograft pathology, pathology informatics and surgical pathology.
