Biography

De. E. Berishvili obtained her MD and PhD degrees in Tbilisi, Georgia, and worked as a research fellow and visiting professor at the Diabetes Research Institute, Miami and at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York. She is currently holding a part-time position as an Associate Professor at Ilia State University, Tbilisi, Georgia. At the same time she is a Senior Researcher at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Her scientific interest is focused on development of innovative cell-based therapies combining the principles of tissue bioengineering and surgical sciences to create auxiliary organs. Currently Dr. Berishvili and her group are concentrating on the development of a bio-artificial pancreas.
